ON THE ROAD :: FLUKE 2008 Photo Report!

Boola Boola! Saturday I drove down to Athens, Georgia for this year's FLUKE minicomics festival. Good day: run-ins with cops, some fun cartoonists, 3 Stella Artois and 1 Bass Ale, and a visit to a sloppy-but-fun comic shop, followed by a big dinner. Heck, that's the whole story! But on the off-chance that you want to know more, I've posted a photo report over on our Flickr site. Check it, bruthas and sisters!

Man, look at all those SCAD people in there (heck Jeremy lives down the hall from me). Everyone keeps telling me that FLUKE is a blast and I keep meaning to go. Definitely will have to be there next year.

Did you bring back any good minis for sale at the store?

also, you will need to sell me the Punch collection. That looks like a gem.

I agree with Andy, more minis for the store.

Is FLUKE always held in Athens? As long as it's close, I'll have to go next year.

Monk, I'm pretty sure it is every year at Tasty World in Athens. JCC will know more--I think he's been to every one.

Andy, not only did I forget to buy anything from the store, I also forgot to buy a bunch of the FLUKE anthology for the store. I'll get on the horn with Drew Weing now, and see if I can't whip up a little surprise for you.

I completely understand seeing as how you had to spend most of your money on bail.

Sniff.

You asked the cop who pulled you for a photo...and got him to smile! People are gonna write songs about you one day, brother!

It's my crooked teeth--people feel sorry.

Is Shelton going to let you expense the ticket?

Dustin Harbin said...

Andy, that is an excellent question. Let's pose it to Shelton himself. Shelton, are you going to let me expense the ticket?

FLUKE is once a year in Athens GA. It's been going on for 7 years now and I've missed 2 of them.

The podcast guys from The Dollar Bin were there and talked a long time with Dustin. Check it out:

Oh man--I just listened to that. You guys should NOT go listen to it--more than half of it is just me singing Neil Diamond songs and cracking on J. Chris. I can't believe they used all that stuff! I thought they'd edit out all the stuff they didn't want.

I don't think the Dollar Bin guys ever leave one centimeter of tape unused!

I thought singing Neil Diamond songs violates your(or anyone's) parole.

Dustin Harbin said...

I will remember this during future Dollar Bin interviews. Maybe instead I will interview THEM the next time, and keep it short.

I'll tell you what, Andy--if you and I are ever anywhere near a karaoke mike, I'll turn you into a Neil Diamond fan so fast it'll make your sequins fall off.

Are there any other events of this sort on the horizon? By "this sort," I mean mini-comic/zine conventions not Dustin singing Neil Diamond.

Dustin Harbin said...

Sigh.

J. Chris, have you still got your ears on? He goes to all these things, and knows all about them. Besides the upcoming Indie Island, where I'm importing a ton of high quality mini-comic-ers, I highly recommend SPX, which is pretty great.

There was no way we could leave out the singing. Dustin is solid gold on the mic. I can't wait for karaoke night at Heroes Con this year.

I had a great time at my first trip to Fluke and will certainly be back next year. And we'll have more interviews from Fluke up on the site this weekend on thedollarbin.net.
